Delicious and simple homemade buttercream frosting, perfect for cupcakes or cakes. Creamy and not too sweet, just perfect!

This recipe makes enough buttercream frosting for one layer of frosting (as shown in these pictures) on 12 medium-sized cupcakes.

In a large mixing bowl using an electric hand mixer, beat the butter on medium speed until smooth (no hard lumps).

Add the confectioners sugar and mix on low speed for 1 minute. Increase speed to medium and continue mixing for another 2 minutes until smooth. Scrape down the bowl as necessary.

Add the heavy cream, vanilla extract and pinch of salt and continue mixing on medium high speed for 1 minute until smooth and well combined. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as necessary.
